Specializations Offered in IIITs
IIITs offer engineering programs in various specializations, including Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Computer Science Engineering.
Among these specializations, Computer Science is particularly popular among candidates who wish to pursue B.Tech/M.Tech programs at IIITs. It is followed by Electronics & Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, respectively.
Now, let’s take a look at the B.Tech, M.Tech, and Dual Degree specializations offered by IIITs in India.
B.Tech Through JEE Main
To secure admission in B.Tech programs at IIITs, candidates need to appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, which is a common entrance exam conducted at the national and state levels.
The minimum eligibility criteria for admission to a B.Tech course is passing Class 12 with mandatory subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biotechnology/Biology, followed by the JEE Main entrance exam.
Candidates must also fulfill the eligibility criteria specified by JEE Main to be eligible for the entrance exam. Generally, candidates are required to have a minimum aggregate of 60% in their Class 12 exams, with individual subject scores taken into consideration.
Once candidates clear the JEE Main cutoff (qualifying marks), they can participate in the JoSAA Counseling process and select their preferred IIITs based on their expected rank in the exam.

IIITs conduct placement activities in two phases: the first phase usually begins in the first week of December, while the second phase starts in the first week of January.
During the placement season, reputed companies visit IIIT campuses to recruit engineering and other graduates for various roles within their organizations.
The average starting salary package for students in IIITs is typically between INR 10 to 15 lakhs per annum. However, the top IIITs in India may offer maximum salary packages of around INR 30 lakhs per annum.
